The Umarex SA9 cal. 4,5mm CO2 air pistol has a construction in combination of polymer frame and metal breech. The gun has a BlowBack system, which makes the breech move and the shooting feel realistic. Although the entire gun may appear plastic, the internal frame, mechanisms and the firing pin insert area are made of metal alloy.

The ergonomically shaped handle and its profiling ensure an easy and good grip. The Umarex SA9 also features an accidental shot safety, a 22mm RIS rail in the front and a metal magazine with a capacity of 20 steel BB pellets. A 12g CO2 bomb is inserted into the rear of the grip. This design is common because it is reliable. The trigger mechanism of the gun is Double Action only - when the trigger is pulled, the hammer is cocked at the same time, which then strikes the valve and the gun is fired.
