| Membrane pore size | 0.2 µm (micron) - allows the elimination of microbes, but cannot guarantee the elimination of viruses ( |
| Lifetime | Membrane microfilter for up to ~?4?000 liters of water (which is ?1?000 gallons) under normal use; carbon filter for about 100 liters (or ~26 gallons) until replacement, depending on intensity of use and quality of water source |
| Washing | Bottle is suitable for hand washing; with filter removed it is also possible in the dishwasher - but mouth parts, membranes and cap should be cleaned carefully according to the manual, not in a hot cycle with drying |

Advantages over the competition
-
Higher membrane lifetime: 4,000 litres is a very good value, which reduces replacement costs and the environmental burden.
-
Two-level filtration: membrane + carbon gives drinking water quality even with odor or chlorine, which many simple filters without carbon do not have.
-
Recycled material & BPA-free: suitable for health and environmentally conscious consumers.
-
Parts availability: replaceable membrane filters and carbon capsules.
-
Design & practicality: removable filter, mouthpiece, strap, light weight for the volume - easy to carry in a backpack and car.
Restrictions / what to look out for
-
Virusesnot eliminated by the filter (a 0.2 µm membrane filter does not remove viruses). If the target water is highly contaminated (e.g. risk of viral infection), further treatment must be applied (e.g. chemical treatment, UV or proper boiling).
-
The carbon filter lasts for relatively few litres (?100?l), so you need to have a spare when using it outdoors frequently.
-
If the water is too densely contaminated, the filter can quickly become dirty - cleaning and flushing is necessary to maximise shelf life.
-
The plastic bottle is not as tough as the metal version in extreme conditions (e.g. frost, rough terrain).

Rating
As an experienced user of outdoor equipment, I can say that the LifeStraw Go 2.0 is one of the best balanced filter-lamps on the market. For normal outdoor use (hiking, traveling) it provides reliable protection against bacteria and parasites, while improving the taste of the water thanks to carbon, which is not commonplace with all filters. The design is practical, the bottle is light enough and ergonomic. If you compare it with competing models that have only a microfilter and no carbon, the water is tastier and the odor is significantly reduced. On the other hand, if you had a need to filter water where there is a risk of viral contamination or extreme pollution, you might want to combine additional protection.
Recommended target group
-
Hikers, trekkers, cyclists, people on outdoor expeditions
-
Travellers to areas where water quality is uncertain
-
Everyday users - for work, school, office - who want to drink cleaner water, reduce plastic waste
-
Health-conscious (BPA-free) and eco-conscious (recycled plastic, less disposable PET bottles)
