Kestrel 5700 Elite AB LiNK Tan weather station with ballistics, LiNK and Applied Ballistic
Code: 0857ALTANProduct detailed description
Meteorological instrumentKestrel 5700 Elite with Applied Ballistics technology is a comprehensive meteorological instrument for measuring and recording basic environmental conditions, including wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, heat index, pressure and altitude. It also includes a powerful ballistics calculator to help you get it right on the first try when shooting at long range. This meter uses Applied Ballistics' library of custom bullet drag models, accurate measurements of your bullet's drag profile plus corrections for aerodynamic jump, spin drift, Coriolis and drop scale factorization to help you achieve accurate long-range shots.
What's new with the Kestrel Elite with Applied Ballistics compared to the previous Kestrel 4500 Applied Ballistics series:
- Bluetooth LINK to smartphones / mobile phones / Android / IOS
- Uses 1 AA battery (instead of 2 AAA)
- The battery door is at the back, sealed off from the motherboard, in case your battery leaks, as was common with all 4000 series models
- Enhanced high-resolution display for any lighting (even sunlight) and easy on the eyes.
- Intuitive navigation on the user interface screen
- Multiple languages: English, French, German, Spanish
- Scratch and shatter resistant glass
- All meters include both red (NV - night vision) and white backlighting.
Since this meter features Kestrel LINK (Bluetooth), you will need to download the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics app to your smartphone to load your guns/ammo into the meter. The new Kestrel meters with Bluetooth technology include the software needed to communicate wirelessly at a range of up to 100 meters in open space (walls or obstacles will affect this range).
Do I need a dongle or a cable?
A free app is available for both Android and iPhone for loading ballistic profiles. You can use it to upload weapon and ammunition combinations to your Kestrel device. Weapon profiles CANNOT be loaded from a hardware key.
The Kestrel 5000 USB cable is an option. This is most often used with multiple meters. An example might be a situation where you need 20 AB meters and want to save money by not buying LINK meters. You can buy 20 meters without LINK, with only 1 cable, and load all the meters using the Profile Loader version for Mac/PC. Otherwise 98% of the Elite meters we sell have LiNK (Bluetooth).
All 5000 Series meters feature both a bright green backlight, which is great for high sunlight conditions, and a night vision backlight. The red night vision (NV) backlight includes an optical filter that reduces overall brightness and minimizes the blue and green light spectrum to preserve night vision. (Note: This "night vision" backlight is not compatible with night vision devices.) Basically, with the red backlight, your eyes don't have to adjust when looking from the meter to the horizon during nighttime use.
This Kestrel 5500 rangefinder with Kestrel LINK system will work in conjunction with compatible rangefinders such as the Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX rangefinder, or the Leica 2700 rangefinder. It is most popular for ballistic applications due to the crosswind compass feature.
The Kestrel Applied Ballistic Meter combines sophisticated environmental sensing capabilities with long-range ballistic information in one handheld device. Built-in applied ballistics software provides all of the following information:
Accurate and trusted "Litz" library with reference ballistic coefficients (BC) G1 and G7.
Custom drag curve modelling; useful when engaging targets outside the supersonic range of the missile.
The ballistic calibration (truing) function learns to rectify based on the actual impact of the missile.
PC Loader software; create firearm profiles on your computer and transfer via cable or Bluetooth.
The Kestrel Shooter's Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics Technology measures up to 15 environmental parameters and allows users to select from G1 or G7 ballistic coefficients (BC) when calculating trajectories on the range. This handy portable meter also offers a library of measured BC "Litz" that contains well over 200 rounds and is still growing and is considered the most comprehensive source of measured data for modern small arms projectiles. Users can also use the ballistic calibration feature to adjust the Kestrel Shooters Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics software to match a specific rifle based on observed impacts at long range, offering even more accurate data points that users can rely on. With easy access to more accurate BC data, shooters have everything they need to calculate trajectory more accurately in the compact and durable design of the Kestrel Meter.
The Kestrel Shooter's Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics allows users to select G1 or G7 ballistic coefficients, or be even more specific and choose from the entire library of Applied Ballistics user curves for over 200 common long-range shots.
Please note that access to the full library of Applied Ballistics custom curves REQUIRES the Applied Ballistics Profile Loader app via cable or loaded from your smartphone using the LiNK app, which is free in the App Store or Google Play. For complete customization and backup of weapon and projectile profiles, we recommend our customers purchase a unit with wireless data transfer via Bluetooth for ease of use and functionality.
All updates to the meter will be done via LiNK by simply connecting it to your phone and being prompted to update the device.
Do I really need Bluetooth (or a USB cable)?
All data can be entered manually except for custom curves. There are several pre-installed custom curves available, but if you want a different one, you have to download it from your phone.
You can load up to 30 weapons, each with one round. In case you have multiple cartridge types for a given rifle, you must enter a whole new weapon for each cartridge type.
What is the difference between Applied Ballistics and Horus?
The main differences between the two models are as follows: The Applied Ballistics model has a different truing application with a drop scale factor, has shot length as a standard input for the gun (used to calculate spin drift), offers +/- angle input, and has the ability to use G1,G7 and custom drag profiles. The instrument comes pre-loaded with 7 custom curves and the Gun loader tool offers over 100 custom resistance profiles that can be used.
Kestrel Elite Meteorological Instrument with Applied Ballistics Features
It utilizes Applied Ballistics' library of proprietary bullet drag models, precise measurements of your bullet's drag profile, and corrections for aerodynamic jump, spin drift, Coriolis, and Drop Scale Factoring to achieve accurate shots at longer distances.
Advanced features include a customizable range card and expanded ballistic data table, as well as memory for up to 16 weapon and missile profiles and 5 stored targets.
Calculate accurate fire control solutions for long range rifle shooting.
When calculating the trajectory, you can select the ballistic coefficient G1 or G7.
Get ballistic coefficient data for more than 225 long-range missiles.
AB Kestrel comes with many preloaded models, but not with full weapon/charge profiles. In other words, you have to build the weapon profile yourself, but you can choose from a list of projectiles when modeling the ammo.
You can measure up to 15 environmental parameters at your fingertips.

*Every Kestrel 5000 Series meter comes exclusively with Energizer® Ultimate AA lithium batteries, made in the USA, for superior reliability, capacity, cold weather performance and weight. We strongly recommend that you use only Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries in your Kestrel meter. If you choose to install alkaline batteries, we recommend that you DO NOT store your Kestrel meter with these batteries and that you check the batteries for leakage and corrosion at least every 30 days. Damage caused by leaking alkaline batteries is not covered under warranty.
